Hemlane allows the owner the choice to allow payments by credit or debit card when creating a payment request. We do not set this option as a default as payments by card come with risk.
What makes credit or debit card payments risky?
Although all payments within Hemlane have the ability to be disputed, payments made by credit or debit card are easier for your tenant to dispute than a payment made by a bank account.
When allowing payments to be made by card, the owner will choose who will pay the additional processing fee of 3%. Either the payor or payee will pay the additional 3% fee. In the event of a payment dispute on a credit or debit card, the receiving user of the payment will be subject to covering the 3% fee if the payor originally paid it.
What happens if a tenant disputes a payment made by a card?
When a payment is disputed, Hemlane is notified and our teams have the opportunity to submit evidence on behalf of the property owner/manager. This documentation will be reviewed by the credit card company who will return a decision within 3 months.
