Hemlane has automation concerning late fees and the late fees are required to be paid prior to having the ability to pay a rent line item.
This requirement is set in place and is consistent with verbiage on a lease agreement that typically outlines a specific late fee amount charged on a specific date when a rental payment is late.
What this looks like is, for example:
A tenant's rent is due on the 1st of every month, if they are late by the 5th of the month a late fee of $75 will be charged one time.
This would mean that the $75 late fee would have to be cleared up so there would be the ability to make the rent payment.
This is typically curated to align with the verbiage within the lease whether it is a late fee of one time charged on a specific date, or a one-time charge with a per-day fee, in relation to how the lease agreement reads.
