Hemlane provides a reference ID with every payment made on our platform. There are three ways to find the Reference ID for a paid transaction in Hemlane.
Please note: If you are unable to find your payment using your reference ID, the payment may be associated with an archived property. Only active properties and their payments can be searched for using a reference ID.

What is a Reference ID (REF ID)?
The reference ID allows for you to easily search for a specific payment and match the transaction to your bank account.
On your bank statement and within Quickbooks (or other accounting systems), you will see the reference ID displayed under the description field. An example is shown below for reference ID QW8KWW:
If you do not see this reference ID on your bank statement, then your bank is not displaying reference IDs. It is very rare that this happens, and typically occurs with smaller banks. Rest assured, we send this reference ID and your bank has the data (but has chosen not to display it to you, the customer).
Banks only allow a certain number of characters for the statement description. Therefore, unique reference IDs are the only want for you to match payment to payment. If we list the rental property address, then you may not be able to distinguish between the security deposit or rent deposit.
Option #1: Search for the REF ID under Transactions
You can search a reference ID within Hemlane to view more details by following the steps below:
Step 1: Select Financials on the left-hand panel
Step 2: Choose the 'Requests' tab on top
Step 3: Searching the payment reference number within the search bar
Option #2: Download your payments
Alternatively, especially valuable when you have multiple Ref IDs to find, you can download a spreadsheet with all of your financial transactions by following the steps below:
Step 1: Select Financials on the left hand panel
Step 2: Choose the 'Requests' tab on top
Step 3: Click [Download] --> [Payments]
The reference ID is attached to each payment, not the payment request. In other words, if you request $1,000 and two roommates pay it separately, then you'll be able to track each payment via a reference ID, matching exactly each roommate's payment to your bank statement's transaction (at the line item level).
To match your payment reference IDs to your downloaded Hemlane spreadsheet, use the information within the "statement descriptor" and use the code after the word Hemlane.
Option #3: Select View from Transactions
You can find the reference ID associated with each payment specifically by following the steps below:
Step 1: Select Financials on the left hand panel
Step 2: Choose the 'Requests' section on top
Step 3: Filter based on the property or any other variable, such as tenants name, to find the exact transaction
Step 4: Select [View] on the transaction
Step 5: You will see the reference ID listed under the Payments section
