When an owner's trust account does not have enough funds to cover outstanding payments, those payments are queued and processed automatically as funds become available. Here is how that process works.
Payments Are Held Until Funds Arrive
If the trust account balance is too low to cover one or more outgoing payments, those payments will show a status of Insufficient Funds and are held in a queue. No payments will go out until funding is available.
Funds Are Applied Oldest First
When funds settle into the account, Hemlane dispatches payments immediately starting with the oldest outstanding payment first. If a payment is too large to be covered by the available balance, it is skipped temporarily and the next oldest payment that can be covered will go out instead. This ensures that smaller payments are not stuck waiting behind a larger one that cannot yet be fulfilled.
Payments Settle as Funds Continue to Come In
As additional funds settle into the account in subsequent deposits, the same logic applies. The oldest remaining payments go out first, working down the queue until all outstanding payments have been fulfilled. Once the queue is cleared, the Insufficient Funds status and any related alerts will be removed.
No Payment Can Jump the Queue
Newer payments cannot be processed ahead of older ones that are still waiting. Each payment holds its place in line until funds are available to cover it.
