This article provides guidance on using Codebox lockboxes for self-guided tours, including ownership, and best practices to ensure smooth tenant placement.
Who Owns the Lockbox?
The owner who submits a Leasing service request will be the owner and operator of the lockbox, including a non-refundable $100 fee.
Hemlane does not own or control these lockboxes. We assist by coordinating the lockbox setup and covering the Codebox activation fees as part of your Tenant Placement request, however our team cannot assist with the lockbox once it arrives, and all troubleshooting, battery replacement etc. can be actioned by the owner or their representative.
Can I Rely 100% on These Lockboxes?
We strongly recommend having a backup set of keys locally. If you are not local to the property, we highly suggest you store a separate set of keys in a non-digital lockbox. As with any digital lockbox, Codeboxes can malfunction and therefore it’s always a good idea to have a second set of keys.
You can let our team know about codes to access these keys by visiting Maintenance & Repair → Instructions and entering the location and lockbox code there. We will not share it with tenants unless it’s an emergency.
How Many Keys Can Be Placed in a Codebox Lockbox?
If you purchase your Codebox through Hemlane, Codebox sends you a Senior lockbox (the larger version of the lockbox), and it will hold up to 2 to 4 keys, including key rings.
💡Tip: Do not put more than 2 to 4 keys in the lockbox, or the lockbox may become jammed and inoperable, and will require a locksmith to open.
Reminder: Make sure the key(s) stored in the lockbox unlock all necessary entry points. These include locks on the door handle, deadbolt locks, additional locking doors such as screen doors or secondary doors etc.) |
Is the Lockbox WiFi-Enabled?
No, Codebox lockboxes are Bluetooth-enabled only.
What Is the Battery Life of These Lockboxes?
Codebox lockboxes have an expected battery life of 9 months. Weather and other external factors may affect this, so we recommend replacing the battery before each tenant turnover to ensure accessibility.
What Are the Power Requirements for These Lockboxes?
Codebox lockboxes require a 9V alkaline or lithium battery with a minimum of 1200 mAh.
Recommended Batteries:
These lockboxes require a 9V alkaline or lithium battery in order to work. The recommended Milliamp power for the lockbox needs to be 1200 mAh. Here are some of the brands that do offer 1200 mAh of power.
- X2 power 9V lithium Battery (recommended by Codebox)
- Batteriol 9v Lithium Battery mAh (found at walmart)
- Tenergy 9V Lithium Battery, 1200 mAh (found at walmart)
💡TIP: If you are unable to find these options, you can use a Energizer 9V Lithium Battery. Please keep in mind that this battery has a maximum milliamp capacity of 750. If used, please ensure that the lockbox is checked consistently to verify the lockbox is still functioning.
